White Collar Season 2 DVD Review

If it has Matt Bomer in it, I will watch it. While I remember Matt from 'Tru Calling', I really fell for him as Bryce Larkin in the NBC show 'Chuck'. Not only is he easy on the eyes, but is good in any tv role i've seen him in recently.

For those not familiar with the show, here is a brief summary: In 'White Collar' Matt plays Neal Caffrey, a  white collar criminal who agrees to help the FBI catch other white collar criminals using his expertise as an art and securities thief, counterfeiter and racketeer.

I watched most of season 2 when it aired on USA Network. I found it interesting that my dad got hooked on the show having not watched S1. So for anyone who is thinking this set isn't or that the show isn't for me, pick it up anyways. You can always pick up season 1 at a later date. Season 3 is currently airing on USA Network and all the episodes are available for free On-Demand or on USANetwork.com.

Now on to the Extras...

The extras are spread out through all four discs and cover a wide variety of things. Disc One features deleted scenes (8:23) that are nothing too special. The gag reel (5:08) is really funny and is worth more then one watch.

Disc Two has the creative team of both White Collar and Burn Notice roasting each other. The WC roast (6:03) I found more entertaining then BN (5:36), but both are good and can also be found on the Burn Notice season 4 discs.

Disc Three has three extras: "Slick Willie" (5:14) is an appreciation like thing for Willie Garson, his character, and his thoughts on the show. There are two episode commentaries on this disc, the first for the episode titled "Point Break," which includes Jeff Eastin, Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay. They also discuss some possible season 3 details and thoughts on certain scenes. I found this commentary to be pretty boring, which is a bummer because I thought it would have been far more entertaining. The second commentary is for the episode titled "Forging Bonds" and I found this one to be a lot more entertaining. Garson and Tiffani Thiessen join in on the fun. A bunch of joking around, scene details, funny jokes about Garson & his wigs in this episode, and trivia.

Moving onto the final disc, which is disc four. We have commentary on the finale ("Under the Radar") is a huge disappointment. Not much was said for the simple fact that the cast (the same bunch from the "Forging Bonds" commentary hadn't seen the episode yet.  We did have some joking around and trivia, but it was mostly laughing and and gasping. How they could not remember what they must have just filmed is beyond me. The final extra is "So Here's The Deal" (12:47). It's a production diary about how an episode is created from script to shooting, covers working in New York, location and production design and how its all done. It is a fast paced one, but the most interesting one of all.

In closing, if you have already seen the episodes are wondering if this set is worth a look, I would say yes. If not for the extras, then for the refresher of season 2. If your new to the show this is defiantly worth a buy. The only downside of this show is the wait between seasons like all cable shows. Lucky for us, USA Network has a entire lineup of good shows to keep us company while we wait not so patiently for the new season.

Disclaimer: I was not compensated for this review in anyway. I won this DVD in a contest and decided on my own that I would review it.
